モノが溢れる豊かな時代の中、人々はモノや情報がどこでどのように生み出され、自分のもとに流れてくるのかということに大きな関心を抱いています。また、「インターネット」という言葉が一般に浸透し、新鮮な情報を求める時間文化の定着や国際化が進んで、知の流通にも大きな変化が生じています。こうした時代を背景に、私たちメメックスは情報の還流をテーマとして、洋書というメディアを通して生活者の五感にアプローチ。洋書籍の輸入・販売をはじめショップ・プランニング、商品開発など、さまざまな事業を展開することで、質の高い「知の文化」を提案しています。

In today's affluent consumer society, there is great interest in distribution; such as how and where goods and information comes from. The establishment of the Information Age, in which we can seek current information and internationalization through that now household word, "the Internet", has caused a great change in the distribution and transfer of knowledge. With this Age as a background, we approach people's five senses through the medium of foreign books with the theme of "information circulation". We propose to create a high quality "intellectual culture" by developing various projects; for example, the import and sales of foreign books, shop-planning, and product development.

メメックス（memex）は、ハイパーテキストシステムの発案者である科学者バネバー・ブッシュの提案した電子図書館に由来します。人と人及び情報交流の場（情報発信機能）を提供しながら、つねに最新の情報伝達（インフォメーション・デリバリー）すること、それがメメックスのコンセプトです。多方面で活躍されている多くの方々が、知識と才能を共有すること。私たちは自由な形態での創造活動を目指します。かつて、デザインの世界に大きな変革をもたらした bauhausが「工芸、彫刻、絵画…すべての造形活動を統合する建築」を理念としたように…。

The origin of the name, "Memex", is from an electronic library made by a scientist named Vannevar Bush, who was the originator of the hyper-text system. Our concept is one of delivering the latest information while providing a place for communication and for the exchange of current information. We hope that people active in various fields will share their knowledge and talent. Our goal is free creative activity; as the Bauhaus movement, which brought a great deal of change in the design world, stated, "construction which combines all the plastic arts' activities, such as handicrafts, sculpture, and drawing".
